Council approved a request on behalf of The Woodland, Inc., for the abandonment of Cobb Street from Agee Street to the right of way of Dowdy Street at a cost of $22,528.50, with all fees associated with the transaction to be paid by The Woodland, Inc.
Council continued the request to amend the current social media policy until recommendations are received from Town Attorney Gary Elder.
Council approved advertising an invitation for bids to update the Town’s Comp Plan, Zoning Ordinances and Subdivision Ordinances.
Council referred the request on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Martin for a Conditional Use Permit to the Planning Commission for a public hearing and recommendation. The Martins are seeking a conditional use permit for their properties located on the corner of High Street and Appomattox Street. The Martins, along with developer Mike Kelly, are proposing to build a housing development for 30 students.
Council approved cancelling the July 4, 2018, regular work session due to the Independence Day holiday.
On a recommendation by the Infrastructure Committee, Council approved installing parking meters on North Street for up to two hours of parking.
On a recommendation by the Infrastructure Committee, Council approved the request to enter into a Lease Agreement with Third Street Brewery to lease 8 parking spaces at $25.00 per space, per month, in the Train Station parking lot. Council also noted that parking will not be permitted in the parking lot from the hours of 1:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.
On a recommendation by the Finance Committee, Council accepted the insurance proposals for Local Choice Anthem–Key Advantage 250 Plan and the Key Advantage 500 Plan. The Committee also recommended Council consider a 3% pay increase for town employees to offset the increase in the cost of insurance when considering the new budget.
