There’s a lot to love about Farmville for kids of all ages. Farmville has parks and playgrounds — even a skateboard park at Wilck’s Lake. Four-legged family members have a park, too. For quiet time hear a favorite story at the Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library’s story time, or visit the Longwood Center for the Visual Arts for some artistic fun.

Grove Street Park — If you’re looking for a shady spot to read or relax this is the place. It’s located at the corner of Grove and Buffalo streets; there’s playground equipment and picnic tables available for a snack or picnic.

Wilck’s Lake Park — Enjoy a lakeside breeze and the scenic view while your youngsters explore the play area; there’s also a picnic area, boat ramp and fishing (Virginia fishing license required). For information, call (434) 392-3333.

Wilck’s Lake Skateboard Park — Enjoy outdoor fun for observers and skateboarders alike. Free membership card is required; for more information, contact Farmville Recreation at (434) 392-3737.

Dogwood Trail — Take the kids for a stroll along the half-mile paved walking trail that winds through the woods between the lower parking lot of Centra Southside Community Hospital and High Street.

Farmville Recreation Department — We offer various activities and programs including youth sports, martial arts and cheerleading. Summer Day Camp for children 6 to 13 offers a different theme each week. Call Farmville Recreation at (434) 392-3737.

Prince Edward Farmville Youth Association — PEFYA believes that kids and sports make a winning combination; the association offers spring baseball and softball, fall baseball, football and soccer and winter basketball; to learn more visit PEFYA’s Facebook page.

Longwood Center for the Visual Arts — Encourage your budding artist with one of LCVA’s children’s art sessions or workshops; located at 129 N. Main Street, LCVA is open Monday-Saturday 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 1-5 p.m. For information, go to

Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library — Take a quiet break with story time on Friday, 10:30-11:30 a.m. and tween movies on Thursday, 4-6 p.m. Check for special programs and events; located next to Wilck’s Lake on Third Street (434) 392-6924.

Dr. Erica Geary Dog Park — For four-footed family members, Farmville’s newest park located at 405 N. Virginia Street offers off-leash fun for dogs; for more information, visit Friends of Farmville VA Dog Park on Facebook.


High Bridge Trail State Park — Take a hike into history along the 31 mile trail that winds through Farmville. Be sure to visit historic and majestic High Bridge — the longest pedestrian bridge in the state; for more information, call 315-0157 or click here.
