On January 25 representatives from the Town of Farmville, Longwood University and Hampden-Sydney College were presented with a commemorative copy of a resolution commending the Town of Farmville for being the first two-college town in America. Town Manager Gerry Spates and Mayor David Whitus were presented the resolution, along with Longwood University President W. Taylor Reveley, IV and Hampden-Sydney College President Larry Stimpert, by Delegate James E. Edmunds, III and Senator Mark Peake. House Joint Resolution 479 was passed by the General Assembly in 2016.

 Four Facts About Farmville

1. Hampden-Sydney college was founded in 1775.

2. 23 years later, the Town of Farmville was founded in 1798.
3. Longwood University was founded in 1839.
4. The two institutions are situated 6.5 miles from one another.
