As we wrap up a season of celebration, and reflect fondly on all the delicious cookies, cakes, pies and glasses of eggnog we enjoyed, our waistlines are doing some reflecting of their own. Whether you’re joining the millions across the nation resolving to get fit in 2017 or simply want to feel better, the town of Farmville is a great place to kickstart your goals.   1. Jingle All the Way

This annual event has become a holiday tradition and offers participants a refreshing break from rounds of shopping and stress. Starting at the First Avenue field, runners follow a mostly flat course through the broad, tree lined Avenues. Younger participants can enjoy a mile fun run/walk that also winds through the Avenues. The 5K portion of the race is timed and scored with male and female winners in five age categories. This year’s Jingle Bell Run was held on December 10th in Frosty the Snowman-approved 20 degree weather.

  1. Bridge Out

The High Bridge Trail is the stuff that fitness dreams are made of. Whether you’re a runner or a biker, this 31 mile converted railroad track offers ample space to push your goals and stretch your limits. Highlights include the High Bridge Trail Plaza in the heart of downtown Farmville and the beautiful High Bridge itself with its panoramic views of the Cumberland and Prince Edward county countrysides. Mile markers and port a johns make High Bridge Trail ideal for adventures of any length or scope.

  1. Come Together

The town of Farmville offers a selection of group fitness programs to get you and your gang moving. Bring a friend or two or three and check out yoga, sculpt and tone, muscle pump or Zumba classes. Ylishehbah Lovelace is a certified group fitness and Zumba instructor who brings her high energy enthusiasm to the 2nd floor of the South Street Conference Center four days of the week. bikesThe Southside Virginia Family YMCA is your passport to a healthier and happier New Year. With a gorgeous heated indoor pool, complete with water slide and splash zone, scores of cardio machines and brand new state of the art weight training machines and equipment, the Y has something for everyone and every fitness level.   1. Get Tickled about Pickle

The Farmville Recreation Department sponsors the Farmville Pickleball League. This badminton- based hybrid is a blend between ping pong and tennis, played with a wiffle ball and paddles. The league provides the equipment and no experience is necessary to join.
