Youth Programs

Youth Football and CheerleadingYouth playing flag football

The Recreation Department oversees the operation of the Youth Flag Football Program for local area children ages 5 to 7. Children who are 7 years old weighing less than 60 pounds are allowed to play Flag Football. The Recreation Department also oversees the operation of the Youth Tackle Football Program for local area youth ages 7 to 14. Each individual is placed on a team determined by weight as well as age. Both programs are designed to introduce local area children to the fundamental principles and skills of football in a fun and safe environment. 

The Recreation Department also oversees the operation of the youth cheerleading program for theYouth cheerleading Opens in new window local area youth ages 5 to 14. The program is designed to teach local area children the fundamental principles and skills of cheerleading in a fun and safe environment. Cheerleaders are broken down into teams based on age and ability. Each age group will cheer for their age-appropriate team.

Modified Sports

The community also offers programs that are specifically designed for children with disabilities. These programs include Buddy Bowling in the fall, Buddy Basketball in the winter, and Buddy Baseball in the spring. There is no cost and are sponsored by Farmville Parks and Recreation and Prince Edward/Farmville Youth Association. Those interested may Email Matt Lucas or visit Farmville Modified Sports.

Summer Camp

Each year the Farmville Recreation Department holds a eight week Summer Camp series for youth ages 5 to 14. Teenagers can participate by serving as a teen counselor with the Rec Department. Each week has a different theme such as Mad Science, Artful Antics, Sports Extravaganza, and First Responders. Each of the themes includes hands-on activities, field trips both local and out of town, and educational opportunities.

Skate Park

The park is open from dawn till dusk to all interested in skateboarding. Participants are required to wear helmets and strongly encouraged to wear all other safety equipment such as knee and elbow pads. The skateboard park is free to all, but participants are required to have a town skate pass. Passes are available in the Town Administration offices located in the Town Hall at 116 North Main Street. Special Events

Easter Egg Hunt 2022

On the morning of April 16th, 2022, The Farmville Recreation Department hosted its annual Easter Egg Hunt with great success. The event took place at the Fireman Sports Arena, on Zion Hill Rd. The Egg Hunt included fun and interactive games for children. Photography with the Easter Bunny was provided onsite for individuals and families. Raffle prizes including large stuffed animals and scooters were given away to participants of the Easter Egg Hunt.

We would like to thank Coach Scott of Ice Cream Delight for serving sweet treats to kids and adults alike. We would also like to thank Jade Owl Photography for providing imagery of the event as well as portraiture. Lastly, we would like to thank The Virginia Children’s Book Festival for facilitating a book distribution to participants of the event.
