The Heart of Virginia Community Band is composed of residents of Farmville and the surrounding counties who enjoy making music with their woodwind, brass, and percussion band instruments.
Some of the members are fairly accomplished in-service musicians, but most members had not played since high school or college.
The season runs from min-August to early May. Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings from 7:30 - 9:00 p.m.
The Heart of Virginia community Band performs two free-stranding concerts each year on the Longwood campus, a Christmas concert in a Farmville church, and at the Heart of Virginia Festival.
Smaller ensembles are also held during the season for various events staged by local civic organizations.
The Heart of Virginia Community Band performs 19th and 20th century traditional concert band compositions to Broadway and Hollywood scores to contemporary pop tunes.
